Flammekueche …
Flammekuche, a pizza like bread from Strasbourg, France is worth a try. This rectangular bread mostly made of cheese, sour cream and pork, comes in other flavors.
Invented by peasants of Alsace region of France, was a weekly affair among the household of the farming community. The bread was served on a shovel and was cut in to small pieces by the guests, rolled by the finger and ate. Usually accompanied with ‘Schnaps’ a brandy from the region.
The restaurant frequented by students in Lille, FLAM’S derives the name from the bread and offers quite an assortment of flammekueches and a buffet menu of these delicious fattening bread. The array of flammekueches continue to surprise me, cheese
with pork, chicken with spinach, and endless other combination. Add to it the delicious spread of sour cream and molten cheese to make any healthy man to reveal his gluttonous side.

Anthony,
I would definitely agree with you. My understanding of this bread is limited to the commercial perception of the restaurant I frequent.
Man,
I am really sorry. But the tarte flambé is much more better that what you describe, is not only a bread from farmers. Its a full meal, cheap and with the wood taste!!!
